Today, I write to you to talk about the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on this day after her passing. I broke out my You Should Meet Ruth Bader Ginsburg book by Laurie Calkhoven and did some light reading
This fabulous woman fought against all odds to become educated and have a successful career. Ruth was 1 of 9 women in her class at Harvard and after her husband became ill with cancer, and other life changes, Ruth graduated first in her class from Columbia Law. She struggled with finding a job after this amazing accomplishment, because she was a woman. She ended be becoming a law clerk and eventually a law professor at Rutgers. She saw many inconsistencies with how men and women were treated in the workplace and elsewhere and began working with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to start the Women's Rights Project. In 1973, Ruth argued her first case before the Supreme Court and won - arguing with the quote, "All I ask of our brethren, is that they take their feet off our necks." said by Sarah Grimke. In 1993, Ruth was rewarded for her career of service and impartiality by being nominated to the Supreme Court by President Clinton. Ruth died at the age of 87, and will always be remembered by her dissents and her collars. Rest in Peace, Ruth.
